Today is our 23rd Wedding Anniversary.I’d say it’s hard to believe how long we have
been married but I feel every minute, of every hour, of every day, of every
week, of every month, and of every year of our marriage.I don’t mean this in a bad way.I am GR8TFUL that we are still married. We have been intentional about our
marriage.We have intentionally put God
first in our marriage. We put in the
work.We showed up daily and that is why
we are still married today.
It wasn’t always like that.We were both selfish. We fought a
lot. And we were unequally yoked. But
God.But God rescued us from ourselves,
thanks to a faithful prayer warrior friend, and we are here, together, to tell
of His faithfulness.I am so GR8TFUL
that I am married to a stubborn Marine who was willing to fight for our
marriage and came to know Christ after we were already married for almost two
years.I don’t recommend being unequally
yoked but God was sweet to us.And God
is BIGGER than any problem we had or any challenge we will face in our future.
Here are a few keys I
believe made a difference in our marriage:
We both know God.
We pray together every night.
I realized he was not responsible for my happiness.
God taught me that my marriage is a ministry and I am to
honor God through it.I learned this
from a Bible Study called Marriage
Without Regrets by Kay Arthur.
I also recommend the book Love and Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs.
As a born worrier I gleaned a lot from Linda Dillow’s book Calm My Anxious Heart. One thing this book taught me was to be
content – in all my circumstances. This
made a world of difference in my marriage.
I am less selfish.
I remember that my husband is on my side.We are on the same team.He is not my enemy. He loves me and he is doing his best.
This list could go on but I think these “few” keys give you
a clear picture.
I can tell you that I do not regret a single minute or ounce
of energy that I have put towards my marriage.Neither of us is perfect, but God is perfect in us and He keeps us
together perfectly as we continue to seek Him in prayer and glorify Him through
I would like to recommend one more book to you that is not technically
marriage-related.However, it is
powerful and will change and strengthen your marriage through audacious
prayer.I am currently doing the study
by Mark Batterson called The Circle
Maker.And though I find myself in a
great spot in my marriage I am struggling with praying boldly and dreaming
BIG!!!!This book has already changed my
life and I felt that way before I finished Chapter 3.All I can say is, “Read It!”
I feel like God puts something on my heart and mind most
days of the week and I thought it would be fun to see if I could share what He
has downloaded, or put on my heart, every day for 31 days. I actually got this year’s title from my web designer,
Greg (or Pastor Green beard, as we call him), as we were talking about my new
blog home and website that he is creating for our GR8TFUL TRIBE. I love how God delivered this year’s
title. Greg and I met on Periscope and
we support each other at a high level every day. God has started something with many of us
Believers on Periscope and we are so excited to see how and where God guides
I have actually been excited about this year’s writing
challenge even though, if I am being honest, I never took the time to sit down
and create a game plan. I just got the
title a few days ago and as I type this I am still tweaking the title and I
haven’t even created my button yet. It
is after 8 p.m. on Saturday October 1st and I am just now getting
started on it all. This is not my normal
way of doing things but life has been interesting and I am learning to be a
little more flexible and trusting God in the details.
One reason I want to write this year is to
create a place for me to share my thoughts each day in a short paragraph or two
and then I will share my thoughts in a short 5 minute, or less, video about it. I am a Periscope
Broadcaster and I have been doing daily broadcasts for 14 months now and God
has used this experience to grow me and introduce me to some amazing people. And this is why I want to combine two of my favorite things: blogging and broadcasting.
I have drawn closer to God as I have had to rely solely on Him for daily content. I am braver and bolder in sharing my faith. I have met some amazing people who will be
lifetime friends. God has created the GR8TFUL Tribe through this smart phone app that has
taken the social media world by storm.
You can join us daily, on the Periscope app, @Gr8tfulChickRis, at 9 a.m.
CST where I share a Tip of The Day!! It’s
crazy fun – you should join us!!!
I can guarantee you that this series will be a mixture of
topics and my hope is that it will be encouraging if nothing else!!!! God bless!!!!
31 Day Series: (A new link will be activated each day after that day's post goes live.)
I have been married to a wonderful man for over 21 years. The hubs will officially retire from the United States Marine Corps October 31st of 2014. The past 21 years have been a great adventure. One I wouldn't trade for the world!! Now we are moving forward into a new season of life and we look forward to seeing where God guides us!!!
